Role overview

This position is for a Lead Project Management Engineer to support client-side delivery in Ireland’s water sector. The role is centred on managing major projects and keeping control of scope, budget, timeline, and risk within the Supply Demand Balance programme.

Key responsibilities

  • Track and coordinate project delivery across schedule, interfaces, cost, variations, contracts, and risk, working closely with the right internal teams and functions.
  • Prepare the Project Execution Plan and ensure delivery follows the contracting entity’s standards and working methods.
  • Lead project coordination so that interfaces are identified, managed, and resolved throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Support technical teams in managing design consultants and other external service providers.
  • Carry out stakeholder consultation and engagement.
  • Provide monthly reporting on project activities and, where relevant, construction-stage work completed during the lifecycle.
  • Maintain the project risk register and review it in monthly progress meetings.
  • Suggest improvements to project management processes, templates, and outputs, escalating ideas to the relevant line manager.
  • Develop cost estimates.
  • Act as client procurement manager.
  • Review contractor design submissions and other deliverables in detail.
  • Handle contract management activities.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of experience in construction or infrastructure projects of similar scale and complexity.
  • A relevant third-level qualification in engineering or a closely related field.
  • Project management certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 would be an advantage.
  • Strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Solid understanding of project management methods and practices.
  • Strong technical capability in water engineering.
  • Good knowledge of contract administration and contract delivery.
  • Ability to establish ongoing procedures for gathering and reviewing information.
  • Previous site-based experience is beneficial, not only office-based experience.
  • Proven record of delivering construction or asset delivery projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Experience working as a client-side project manager.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders at multiple levels and influencing process improvement and project guidance.
  • Self-driven and motivated working style.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Ability to govern work and drive outcomes so project outputs meet required standards.
  • Planning ability and familiarity with Oracle Primavera 6 would be an advantage.
  • Strong report-writing capability.
  • Comfortable using computers and common business tools.
