Position Overview
The role focuses on hands-on configuration and development within Guidewire PolicyCenter to align with Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance business needs. The developer will collaborate closely with business analysts, solution architects, integration teams, QA, and DevOps professionals to support policy administration functions such as new product launches, rating workflows, quotes, binds, and enterprise integrations.
Core Responsibilities
- Configure and develop PolicyCenter components including entities, typelists, product models (Lines of Business, coverables, modifiers), rating worksheets, user interfaces (PCF files), workflow processes, and rules engine.
- Write business logic using Gosu via rules, enhancements, and plugins; extend data models as necessary.
- Build and maintain rating engines, rating tables, pricing structures, discounts, and surcharges.
- Implement and maintain batch jobs and messaging integrations for downstream systems such as billing, claims, document generation, CRM/party management, and data warehousing.
- Author unit tests, engage in peer code reviews, support system and user acceptance testing, and perform defect triage.
- Uphold Guidewire recommended practices, coding standards, and performance guidelines.
- Contribute to continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines and automation in collaboration with DevOps.
- Collaborate with business analysts to refine requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria; perform estimates and risk identification; actively participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies.
- Produce technical documentation including design documents, integration specs, and deployment/runbooks.
- Support production environments through performance tuning, issue resolution, and infrastructure hardening.
- Recommend enhancements to improve system scalability, maintainability, and code reusability.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter configuration and Gosu development is required.
- Expertise in Gosu programming, PCF (Page Configuration Files), understanding of the Guidewire data model (entities and typelists), workflows and rules, product model development, and rating configurations.
- Proficient with integration patterns including SOAP and REST services, messaging systems, event processing, and batch workflows.
- Familiarity with Guidewire Studio and experience with databases such as Oracle and SQL Server.
- Solid understanding of the P&C insurance lifecycle including new business, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, reinstatements, rewrites, and mid-term policy changes.
- Domain experience in Commercial Lines and/or Personal Lines insurance.
- Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies, Git version control including branching and code review processes.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to Guidewire Cloud solutions, including PolicyCenter Cloud services.
- Working knowledge of Guidewire BillingCenter, ClaimCenter, and cross-application integrations.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Maven or Gradle, Artifactory, and basic containerization concepts.
- Competence in performance profiling and tuning such as heap management, garbage collection, and query optimization.
