About the Role
The Central Otago District Council is seeking a motivated Building Control Officer - Inspector to join the Regulatory Services team based in Alexandra. This position offers the chance to contribute to safe, compliant, and high-quality building outcomes throughout the district within a progressive local government environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections on buildings to ensure they align with approved consents and comply with the New Zealand Building Code.
- Evaluate applications related to Code Compliance Certificates (CCC).
- Identify non-compliant building work and take appropriate action in line with legislative frameworks.
- Provide expert regulatory advice and guidance to builders, designers, and the public.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records in Council regulatory systems.
- Contribute to upholding the Council’s Building Consent Authority accreditation and associated quality assurance processes.
Candidate Profile
- Possession of a recognized qualification compliant with Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
- Proven experience in building control or conducting building inspections.
- Demonstrated capability performing inspections of Residential 1–2 buildings and assessing Code Compliance Certificates.
- Strong understanding of the Building Act 2004 and New Zealand Building Code requirements.
- Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a regulatory team environment.
