About the Role

Sandvik, a global leader in engineering and industrial solutions, offers a dynamic work environment that values innovation, sustainability, diversity, and personal development. We seek an Automation Technician to join our team in Kitwe, Copperbelt Province, Zambia. In this role, you will ensure the smooth functioning and reliability of automated production systems used both on surface and underground mining operations, including OptiMine technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, configure, and maintain automation systems such as AutoMine and Newtrax following technical guidelines.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues within automation systems by identifying root causes effectively.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on automation equipment to maintain peak operational performance and reduce downtime.
  • Design and implement automation improvements aimed at increasing production quality and efficiency.
  • Work closely with production teams to discover new automation integration opportunities.
  • Keep abreast of the most recent developments in automation technologies and best industry practices.
  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy machinery and specialized equipment including hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Provide detailed reports to the Automation Supervisor or foreman concerning all scheduled and unscheduled work on automation systems.

Qualifications & Preferences

  • A degree in Engineering disciplines such as Automation, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Telecommunication, or Electrical Electronics.
  • At least one year of experience in an industrial automation setting.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
  • Willingness to travel or relocate and adapt to varied environments including underground and open cast mining sites.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming platforms such as Siemens and Allen-Bradley, along with expertise in HMI software, is highly desirable.
  • Experience in underground mining operations would be an advantage.
