Overview

The role involves strategizing, organizing, and ensuring the completion of production targets for Post Extrusion, aiming to meet quantity, recovery, and efficiency goals while staying within budget. This position supports dispatch and export functions to contribute to overall extrusion plant achievements.

Context and Challenges

The Alupuram Works operates two extrusion presses from 1955 and 1965, with upgrades expanding capacity from 8,000 tons annually in 2002 to 13,800 tons currently. Facing intense competition in extrusion, the plant offers diverse alloys and shapes across India, focusing on value-added sectors like Defence, Bridges, Automobile, Marine, and Electrical applications.

This position liaises between planning, dispatch, production, logistics, and sales to ensure smooth post extrusion activities, dispatch, and excise compliance. Coordination with stakeholders like central excise and logistics is critical to timely document dispatch and revenue collection. Managing material flow across machine centers while minimizing lead times and maximizing efficiency is essential.

Key challenges include handling customized practices for over 700 customers, managing packing insourcing/outsourcing, delivering value-added customer services, and implementing cost-effective packing methods.

Responsibilities

• Plan post extrusion operations to fulfill production targets and customer demands within budget.
• Control work-in-progress (WIP) and warehouse inventory according to business plans.
• Provide regular updates on production and cost control measures.
• Develop alternate vendors and coordinate with service providers for post extrusion tasks.
• Achieve on-time in-full (OTIF) delivery targets for the plant.
• Maintain inventory at budgeted levels.
• Conduct daily and weekly coordination meetings involving packing, marketing, dispatch, and production teams.
• Supervise packing activities aligning with marketing needs and maintain minimal inventory levels.
• Implement safety measures including SAE rounds, SOP adherence, job safety analysis, safety committee directives, and system audits.
• Facilitate skill development and training for staff, focusing on hard alloy processes and on-the-job guidance for workers and team members.
