Vascular Surgery Consultant

Overview

The Vascular Surgery Consultant is responsible for managing the admission, care, and treatment of patients in the Vascular Surgery outpatient clinics, emergency room, and hospital admissions. They perform a wide range of vascular surgical procedures, handle postoperative care, and employ evidence-based practices to optimize patient outcomes. The role requires collaboration with healthcare teams, involvement in department education, quality improvement, and administrative planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage patient admissions, monitoring, and compassionate care in outpatient, emergency, and inpatient settings related to vascular surgery.
• Perform routine and emergency vascular surgical procedures and oversee postoperative patient management.
• Use scientific evidence to investigate, diagnose, and treat patients effectively.
• Prescribe and regularly review medications in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Closely monitor the medically necessary duration of patient hospitalization.
• Maintain comprehensive clinical documentation including assessments and care plans in compliance with hospital policies.
• Follow protocols for blood product use and antibiotic stewardship according to hospital guidelines.
• Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster professional relationships with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
• Understand healthcare systems and contexts to enhance and optimize care delivery.
• Apply scientific methods to improve care practices and ensure cost-effective treatment avoiding unnecessary diagnostics or therapies.
• Commit to ongoing professional development, ethical conduct, cultural sensitivity, and responsible cooperation with staff and patients.
• Supervise resident staff and general practitioners, manage departmental staffing schedules to ensure 24-hour coverage.
• Participate in departmental planning, budgeting, and continuing medical education programs.
• Attend medical staff meetings as requested by the Head of Surgery.
• Lead and coordinate quality improvement initiatives within the department.
• Educate patients and families to empower them in making informed care decisions.
• Carry out additional duties within the clinical scope as directed by senior medical leadership.

Experience and Qualifications

• At least five years of experience in surgery, including a minimum of three years as a consultant specializing in vascular surgery.
• Minimum five years elapsed since earning essential postgraduate qualifications.
• Medical degree from an accredited institution.
• Saudi Board, Fellowship Certification, or equivalent specialization in vascular surgery.
• Valid Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) license as a Vascular Surgery Consultant.

Skills and Competencies

• Comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in vascular surgical procedures.
• Experience in academic teaching and research within vascular surgery.
• Proficiency in Arabic and English languages, including reading and writing.
• Familiarity with computer applications relevant to medical practice.
