Job description

Role Overview

The Anesthesia Registrar is responsible for delivering comprehensive clinical care in anesthesia within their delegated clinical privileges. This includes conducting thorough pre-operative assessments such as anesthesia consultations and visits, managing anesthesia during surgeries, and overseeing post-operative care while working under consultant supervision. All practices comply with the Dallah Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure compassionate and effective monitoring and care of patients attending anesthesia clinics for preoperative evaluation.
  • Administer general anesthesia for various surgical procedures involving adults and children, including major, moderate, and minor surgeries.
  • Provide consultations and administer anesthesia utilizing a full range of methods and techniques.
  • Maintain professional standards aligned with hospital requirements.
  • Offer technical advice and training to anesthesia technicians and nursing personnel, including orientation on new procedures.
  • Supervise anesthesia technicians’ work quality, performance, and efficiency during duty or on-call hours.
  • Interview surgical patients to devise anesthesia care plans, establish rapport, and alleviate anxiety.
  • Conduct postoperative patient evaluations to monitor anesthesia recovery, identify complications, and suggest corrective measures.
  • Stay updated with advancements and new techniques in anesthesia practice.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support emergency surgery, obstetrics, and medical procedures, remaining physically available for consultations.
  • Assess patients in the Accident and Emergency department upon physician request.
  • Maintain accurate anesthesia-related clinical documentation in medical records as per hospital policies.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills to build professional relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Apply system knowledge to improve healthcare delivery and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Utilize scientific evidence to evaluate and enhance patient care practices while demonstrating cost-conscious medical care.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development, ethical conduct, cultural sensitivity, and a responsible approach towards colleagues and patients.
  • Lead and coordinate quality improvement initiatives in assigned areas.
  • Engage in patient and family educational efforts to facilitate informed decisions and participation in care.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of Anesthesia or Chief of Medical Staff relevant to professional expertise.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Postgraduate qualification such as MSc or equivalent in Anesthesiology.
  • Minimum three years’ experience following postgraduate qualification.
  • Valid SCFHS License in Anesthesiology at Registrar level.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in performing general anesthesia for various surgical cases.
  • Competence in administering local analgesia techniques.
  • Experience with specialized anesthesia techniques (pediatric, neuro, cardiothoracic) under consultant supervision.

Additional Skills (Desirable)

  • Ability to communicate fluently in both Arabic and English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Familiarity with computer applications relevant to clinical practice.
