Job description
Role Overview
The Youth Worker is responsible for supervising and supporting young individuals who are under youth justice interventions, ensuring their safety and compliance with legal requirements.
Mandatory Requirements
- An unrestricted “C” Class driver’s license is essential, as the role involves driving government vehicles regularly.
- A valid Blue Card linked to the organisation is required before commencing employment, due to the position's involvement with children and young people.
- The position is based in Townsville but requires regional travel, which may include overnight stays.
- Although not a strict condition, preference is given to applicants identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement core program elements independently or collaboratively to support Service Response Plans formulated by Youth Justice Caseworkers.
- Provide direct supervision and assistance to young people, ensuring high-quality service adherence in line with legislation, statutory delegations, policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Engage and negotiate with government and community agencies, service providers, and families to enhance young people’s access to services and support networks per their service plans.
- Offer culturally appropriate support to young individuals and families to aid compliance with bail and court orders and facilitate community reintegration.
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including internal and external stakeholders, to achieve superior casework and management outcomes.
- Maintain and develop relevant knowledge through active participation in learning and development activities.
- Create and maintain clear, accessible case records in accordance with departmental case management standards and participate in review meetings as required.
- Support Program Coordinators and Team Leaders in scheduling weekly rosters for youths under supervised orders and bail programs, aligned with service response plans.
- Conduct safety audits of service delivery locations and program equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Engage in continuous training and skill enhancement to provide services consistent with contemporary youth justice practices.
- Demonstrate or commit to developing cultural capability that fosters an inclusive environment aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019, supporting programs and partnerships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
