Team Environment

The Yard Operations team organizes hundreds of live auctions globally each year. The team comprises a variety of roles including equipment inspectors, yard managers, operators, administrative personnel, and customer service representatives, all contributing to multi-million dollar auctions' success.

Position Overview

Yard Staff members at IAA work outdoors, often in varying weather conditions, performing tasks that require attention to detail and agility. A passion for cars or mechanical knowledge is advantageous. Safety is a top priority, alongside ensuring smooth and speedy yard operations. This role involves learning and utilizing innovative technologies at the forefront of the auction industry.

Responsibilities

  • Record and file vehicle information upon check-in to the facility.
  • Thoroughly clean vehicles to enhance their appearance and auction value, with training provided.
  • Safely operate passenger vehicles for moving within the facility or during drive-through auctions.
  • Collect keys, license plates, and other vehicle-related items, ensuring their proper storage at the site.
  • Assist visitors by offering guidance and directing them to the correct personnel for further assistance.
  • Receive on-the-job training and development for forklift and loader operation.

Candidate Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent is mandatory.
  • The role demands physical activity; candidates should be prepared for work outside of a typical desk job.
  • A friendly and positive attitude is essential to ensure pleasant interactions with customers.
  • General automotive knowledge or mechanical aptitude is beneficial.
  • Teamwork skills are vital for operational success.
  • A valid driver’s license and eligibility to operate a motor vehicle as required by job duties.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required): Experience or skills in basic automotive repair, equipment rental, or construction sectors are considered a strong fit for the role.

Physical Demands

  • Use safety and maintenance procedures to protect company and customer assets.
  • Employ personal protective equipment such as safety gloves and glasses appropriately.
  • Identify and react properly to potentially hazardous situations to avoid accidents.
  • Comply with industry regulations regarding hazardous materials handling.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull weights up to 50 pounds; occasionally over 100 pounds.
  • Perform frequent movements including reaching, handling, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, and crawling.
  • Maintain alertness to hazards linked to heavy equipment and vehicle operation.

Working Environment

  • Work predominantly occurs outdoors under all weather conditions.
  • Stay vigilant regarding safety risks associated with heavy machinery and vehicle traffic within the work area.
