About the Role

Kia ora! We are seeking Workforce Planners to join our Air New Zealand team via permanent and 12-month fixed-term contracts. These roles are available within both our Air and Ground operations. The positions include one permanent role and two fixed-term roles—one supporting Pilots and Cabin Crew, and the other focusing on Ground operations including Airports, Engineering, and Maintenance.

This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring that the airline has the appropriate personnel with the right skills, positioned correctly to meet operational demands efficiently and compliantly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain detailed workforce and leave plans covering medium to long-term horizons (from six months up to five years).
  • Analyze workforce demands, labor availability, leave requirements, operational risks, and performance metrics.
  • Balance the needs of operations, labor costs, contract terms, and legal requirements to develop actionable workforce strategies.
  • Track workforce plans continuously, providing reports, insights, and recommendations to facilitate well-informed decision-making.
  • Identify workforce limitations, risks, and opportunities, offering feasible solutions to enhance operational readiness.
  • Leverage data analysis, modeling, and structured problem-solving techniques to clarify priorities and influence outcomes amidst competing demands.
  • Foster strong relationships with operational leaders and stakeholders to understand priorities, challenge constructively, and convert requirements into feasible plans.
  • Drive improvements in workforce planning processes, tools, systems, and workflows.
  • Ensure workforce planning data and systems are kept accurate to support reporting, compliance, and decisions.
  • Champion the highest standards of safety, security, and compliance.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in workforce planning, resource or operational planning, rostering, demand or capacity planning, or other analytical planning roles.
  • Strong analytical mindset with numerical proficiency, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to interpret data, detect trends, evaluate alternatives, and offer practical, data-driven recommendations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, capable of managing multiple competing priorities.
  • Confident stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence decisions constructively via clear communication and evidence.
  • Self-driven with the ability to manage ambiguity and establish order where processes are not well defined.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with data-driven planning tools.
  • Experience with workforce planning software, reporting, modeling, or visualization tools is a plus.
  • A mindset geared toward continuous improvement and an enthusiasm for smarter ways of working.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred but not mandatory if equivalent experience can be demonstrated.
  • Previous experience in airline or aviation workforce planning is advantageous but not essential; strong planning and critical thinking skills with a willingness to learn are key.

Why Join Us?

  • Opportunity to make a substantial impact within a large, complex airline environment.
  • Develop skills in analytics, stakeholder engagement, and strategic workforce planning.
  • Engage with a wide array of workforce challenges and operational complexities.
  • Contribute to shaping workforce plans that support employees, customers, and the airline's future success.
