About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Workato Integration Engineer to design, build, and maintain robust integration solutions across various SaaS platforms, internal systems, and APIs. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to translate business needs into efficient automation workflows and ensuring ongoing operational stability through comprehensive support and governance practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy integration workflows using the Workato platform to connect SaaS applications, internal infrastructure, and APIs.
- Interpret business and functional requirements to create scalable and maintainable integration recipes.
- Establish and manage connections through existing Workato connectors and develop custom connectors when necessary.
- Implement strategies for error handling, retry mechanisms, and monitoring to guarantee integration reliability.
- Diagnose and resolve integration issues encountered in both testing and production stages.
- Prepare documentation outlining integration architectures, data flows, and technical specifications.
- Engage with business partners and engineering teams to accurately scope integration requirements.
- Utilize broad technology knowledge beyond Workato, including infrastructure, networking, and third-party system integration, to deliver comprehensive solutions.
- Identify opportunities for process enhancement and platform improvements.
- Contribute to platform governance including environment management, version control, lifecycle management, and adherence to best practices.
- Demonstrate leadership by mentoring fellow engineers.
- Independently manage Day 1 development tasks and provide Day 2 support to uphold solution performance and stability.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of practical experience developing and deploying integrations on Workato, with demonstrated project completion (beyond certifications or training).
- Proven expertise in both initial integration development (Day 1) and ongoing maintenance/support (Day 2), able to manage integrations throughout their lifecycle.
- Understanding of centralized data flows, data orchestration, data governance, and system-of-record principles.
- In-depth knowledge of integration patterns including point-to-point, publish/subscribe, batch processing, and event-driven paradigms.
- Familiarity with Service-Oriented Architecture and microservices frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with REST and SOAP APIs, webhooks, and data formats such as JSON and XML.
- Proficient scripting skills in languages like JavaScript, Ruby, Python, or comparable languages to implement custom integration logic.
- Understanding of relational database systems such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL.
- Experience with authentication mechanisms including OAuth 2.0, SAML, API key management, and Microsoft Entra.
- Experience working with Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service cloud environments.
- Knowledge of enterprise SaaS platforms like HubSpot, Workday, ServiceNow, or equivalents.
- Strong grasp of data mapping, transformation, and error handling within integration processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively and foster teamwork with strong interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and commitment to quality deliverables.
- Quick learner capable of independently troubleshooting and resolving complex problems.
- Experience working in Agile delivery models.
- Workato certifications such as Workato Automation Pro preferred.
- Prior experience in early childhood education, social services, or regulated industries is advantageous.
- Familiarity with school management, CRM, HR, or finance enterprise software is a plus.
- Experience contributing to Centres of Excellence or innovation initiatives.
- Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and integrations with Google Workspace.
- Practical experience integrating AI and large language model services through Workato, such as OpenAI or Anthropic Claude connectors.
- Exposure to developing AI-powered automation workflows including document processing, conversational agents, and intelligent routing.
- Experience with Robotic Process Automation tools like UiPath to automate legacy or UI-only systems where API integration is limited.
- Familiarity with event broker technologies such as Kafka, AWS EventBridge, Google Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ, or Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) solutions.
