About the Role
The Wine Category Manager will spearhead the identification, selection, and commercial advancement of an exceptional global wine portfolio for the company’s various segments, including travel retail, local markets, and hospitality subsidiaries. This involves scouting current trends and producers, curating exclusive wine collections, and negotiating with suppliers for limited and high-value selections that enhance sales and enrich customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze global wine trends, consumer behaviors, and market opportunities to formulate effective wine category strategies and annual range plans.
- Establish and nurture a worldwide network of wineries, producers, and distributors to access limited allocations and exclusive offers.
- Develop business cases for new wine assortments that include pricing strategy, margin expectations, volume forecasts, and promotional planning; present these plans to senior procurement and category management teams.
- Monitor category sales, margins, product mixes, and availability through supplier scorecards and suggest improvements in range, pricing, and promotions.
- Create integrated commercial propositions across the group ecosystem including parent company and subsidiaries.
- Select wines from key regions and styles to maintain a well-balanced portfolio aligned with target audiences across global travel retail and domestic markets.
- Lead commercial negotiations concerning pricing, rebates, listing fees, payment terms, marketing support, and allocation management to achieve margin and growth goals.
- Coordinate limited and exclusive product launches, ensuring readiness with product data, tasting notes, compliance paperwork, and marketing materials in collaboration with Retail, Supply Chain, and Marketing teams.
- Provide expert guidance to hospitality ventures such as Lounges and Inflight to position the Qatar Duty Free as a leading supplier.
- Carry out additional related duties as assigned by the Department Head.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
- At least 6 years of pertinent professional experience.
- Fluency in both spoken and written English.
- Demonstrable expertise in wine procurement across principal producing nations including France, Italy, Spain, Chile, Australia, and South Africa, with background in category management, sourcing, brand management, or winery/producer environments in sectors like travel retail, hospitality, or import/distribution.
- Proven success in supplier negotiation and relationship oversight, especially in managing allocations and securing favorable commercial terms meeting margin and growth objectives.
