Role Overview

Join the Waimakariri District Council, situated in Rangiora, Canterbury, New Zealand, as a full-time Water & Wastewater Manager. This permanent position places you at the forefront of managing critical water infrastructure in one of the country's fastest expanding districts, shaping the future of vital water supply and wastewater services for the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the safe, reliable, and compliant delivery of water supply and wastewater services.
• Manage strategic asset planning along with long-term infrastructure development.
• Create and execute water service strategies, asset management frameworks, and investment plans.
• Oversee the capital works initiatives and ensure successful execution of infrastructure projects.
• Guide, mentor, and grow a team of technical specialists.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, including drinking water quality and resource consent requirements.
• Manage financial aspects such as budgeting, development contributions, and overall fiscal planning.
• Support strategic growth plans, climate resilience measures, and sustainable service operations.
• Foster collaborative relationships with internal teams, elected officials, regulators, consultants, and community stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a degree in civil engineering or a related engineering/science field; Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation is preferable.
• Brings extensive senior-level experience in water, wastewater, utilities, or infrastructure management.
• Expertise in asset management, strategic infrastructure planning, and investment decision-making.
• Demonstrates leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams and large-scale programs.
• Skilled in budget management, stakeholder engagement, and achieving service delivery objectives.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Experience in local government or similarly regulated settings is highly valued.
