Role Overview

The Washerman in Laundry takes charge of managing the washing process meticulously, ensuring each laundry item receives thorough cleaning. This role involves applying diverse washing methods, appropriate detergents, stain removers, and chemicals proficiently. Reporting to the Laundry Team Leader, the role collaborates intimately with Laundry Sorters and Attendants to uphold excellence within laundry operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle loading and unloading of commercial washer-extractors efficiently, lifting items up to 50 pounds when necessary.
• Implement proper washing techniques tailored to different materials and stain types.
• Utilize stain removers and other chemical treatments to pre-treat stained laundry.
• Choose and apply suitable detergents and chemicals for various laundry loads.
• Monitor machine performance regularly and immediately notify the Team Leader of any malfunctions.
• Inspect cleaned items to confirm they meet quality standards and report inadequately cleaned items.
• Ensure removal of valuables and objects from pockets before washing.
• Validate that all valet laundry items are accompanied by valid bills and cross-check the accuracy of customer billing.
• Maintain records of bulk laundry quantities processed in commercial units.
• Strictly adhere to personal protective equipment protocols and uphold a safe workspace.
• Keep the washing area clean and organized to maintain hygiene standards.
• Collaborate effectively with team members to streamline workflow and efficiency.
• Follow Lost and Found protocols by documenting and securing recovered items for management reporting.
• Assist in onboarding new staff and participate in ongoing training to refine skills and techniques.
• Maintain professional conduct when interacting with clients and colleagues.
• Support additional tasks assigned by supervisors to facilitate smooth laundry operations.
• Act as a resourceful runner supporting both valet laundry and commercial laundry teams.
• Report any incidents or guest complaints without delay to management.
• Ensure daily laundry activities comply with the highest standards of service.
• Attend and contribute actively in team meetings, trainings, and job briefings.
• Maintain open, positive communication and strong working relationships across all levels of staff.
• Demonstrate motivation to share knowledge and foster a consistently positive workplace environment.
• Exhibit professionalism in all interactions with guests and coworkers.
• Display flexibility in scheduling and willingly work additional hours as necessary to meet operational demands.

Qualifications & Experience

• High school diploma or its equivalent; additional qualifications in hospitality or related fields are advantageous.
• Fluency in the local language along with spoken and written English; proficiency in other foreign languages is a plus.
• Demonstrated competence performing washerman duties in laundry operations.
• Minimum of two years hands-on experience operating wet cleaning machines and executing stain removal techniques.
