Job description
Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and accountable operator for Vertical Machining Centre (VMC) machines to handle precise machining of components according to detailed drawings, specifications, and production guidelines.
Key Duties
- Operate and supervise VMC machines ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Interpret engineering drawings, including dimensions and tolerances.
- Prepare machines by setting up jobs, tools, fixtures, and workpieces accurately.
- Manage loading and unloading of workpieces properly.
- Run CNC/VMC programs and apply minor program corrections as needed.
- Adjust tool offsets, work offsets, and compensate for tool length.
- Conduct in-process inspections using precision instruments such as Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, and Bore Gauges.
- Ensure machining accuracy and desired surface finishes are maintained.
- Detect defects during machining and undertake corrective measures.
- Monitor tool condition to replace worn-out tools timely.
- Maintain machine cleanliness and adhere to 5S housekeeping practices.
- Observe all safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment.
- Collaborate with Production and Quality departments to achieve set production goals.
- Keep accurate production and inspection documentation.
- Notify supervisors promptly about any machine malfunctions or tool-related issues.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proficient in operating VMC machines and basic CNC machining techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with measuring tools and inspection techniques.
- Understanding of cutting tools, machining speeds and feeds, and processes.
- Knowledge of G-code and M-code; experience with Mitsubishi controls is a plus.
- Demonstrates attention to detail and dedication to quality output.
- Capable of functioning independently and collaborating within a team.
- Willing to work additional hours when the job demands.
Preferred Experience
- Hands-on experience with 3-axis or 4-axis VMC machines.
- Background in machining precision components.
- Expertise in CNC/VMC machine setups and tool offset adjustments.
- Experience working with Mitsubishi control systems is advantageous.
