Job description
Overview
We are seeking an experienced VMC Machine Operator responsible for operating Vertical Machining Center machines to produce precision components. The role involves setting up machines, loading tools, executing production tasks, performing dimensional inspections, and upholding strict safety and quality standards.
Core Duties
- Operate VMC machines to manufacture components that comply with technical drawings and specifications.
- Interpret engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
- Prepare machines via fixture installation, workpiece loading, tool preparation, and work offset adjustments.
- Load CNC programs, make necessary minor adjustments to programs or offsets.
- Choose and fit cutting tools, tool holders, and inserts suited for the task.
- Adjust and monitor tool offsets, spindle speeds, feed rates, and cutting parameters effectively.
- Conduct first-piece and ongoing dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and dial gauges.
- Ensure components meet dimensional accuracy and desired surface finish.
- Monitor machine operations to detect issues such as vibration, tool wear, dimensional deviations, or alarms.
- Replace cutting tools when worn or damaged.
- Troubleshoot basic machine issues and escalate complex problems to supervisors or maintenance teams.
- Maintain detailed production logs, inspection documentation, and tool change records.
- Adhere to production schedules to meet daily manufacturing targets.
- Maintain cleanliness and comply with 5S workplace organization standards around the machinery.
- Comply with all safety policies and utilize personal protective equipment at all times.
- Aim to reduce material waste, tool consumption, component rejections, and minimize machine downtime.
- Contribute to continuous improvement programs and productivity enhancement efforts.
