Virtualisation Operations Engineer

About the Role

This position involves managing and administering the company's virtualization environment daily, including provisioning virtual machines, managing resources, monitoring performance, and addressing operational issues within the VMware infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily administration of VMware ESXi, vCenter, clusters, and VMs.
• Handle provisioning, setup, modification, migration, and decommissioning of virtual machines.
• Allocate CPU, memory, storage, and network resources efficiently.
• Continuously monitor performance, system capacity, and overall virtualization health.
• Provide second-level support for virtualization-related incidents and service tickets.
• Diagnose and resolve issues related to VM performance, connectivity, configurations, and resources.
• Respond to system alerts and events by taking necessary corrective measures.
• Refer complex technical problems to senior virtualization engineers or higher-level (L3) support teams.
• Participate in VMware patching, system upgrades, maintenance, and migration projects.
• Implement authorized changes adhering to ITSM and change management protocols.
• Conduct routine health checks and maintenance operations.
• Maintain detailed records of VM inventory, configurations, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate closely with teams managing infrastructure, storage, backup, and networking.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in virtualization, systems administration, or infrastructure operations.
• Practical experience working with VMware ESXi and vCenter platforms.
• Competency in VM lifecycle management including provisioning, resource allocation, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Basic knowledge of server hardware, storage systems, networking, and backup technologies.
• Experience operating within ITSM/ITIL frameworks.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) certification.
• VMware Associate or Professional certifications.
• Familiarity with Veeam or similar enterprise backup solutions.
• Experience supporting virtualization environments in enterprise settings.
• ITIL Foundation certification.
