Role Overview
The Vice President of Software Development leads NewGlobe’s engineering efforts as the organization transitions to becoming an AI-native engineering group. This role includes setting technical strategy, managing and expanding teams, and being responsible for delivery. A key component is hands-on leadership, directly engaging with engineers and championing AI-assisted development practices to transform manual functions into scalable systems and agents. Located in Lagos, this leadership position reports to the CTO and collaborates closely with leadership teams locally and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the entire software engineering division, including delivery teams and cross-functional areas like solutions architecture, DevOps/CloudOps, and the data platform, fostering team collaboration on common projects.
- Drive the strategic transition toward an AI-native engineering model by developing and executing a roadmap advancing AI maturity across multiple stages.
- Lead by example with hands-on involvement, pairing with engineers to set standards in AI-assisted workflows and daily development craftsmanship.
- Transform traditional roles such as QA and product design into scalable "factory" capabilities, automating and systematizing tasks at scale.
- Manage the human impact of technological shifts by addressing concerns, encouraging engineers during change, and maintaining team engagement.
- Ensure timely delivery of products and programs with high quality, leveraging AI tools in development pipelines.
- Recruit, coach, and manage engineering talent, coordinating with the CTO and leadership teams to build an effective organization.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated success leading software engineering teams with accountability for technical direction and delivery outcomes.
- Proven, practical experience implementing AI-native or agentic engineering approaches within a real-world organization, including clear insights into the transformation journey and maturity achieved.
- Technical hands-on expertise respected by engineers, comfortable pairing with developers using AI tools.
- Experience guiding teams through technological change, including reskilling and handling resistance to new workflows.
- Strong focus on creating leverage by turning manual functions into automated tools and agent-based systems.
- Ability to work effectively with limited resources in a high-growth, mission-focused context.
- Based in or willing to relocate to Lagos, Nigeria.
