Role Overview

The Veterinary Technician position at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi involves delivering comprehensive veterinary care to a broad range of animals, including mammals, fish, reptiles, birds, and invertebrates. This role supports the regional marine life rescue and rehabilitation initiatives and contributes to maintaining the facility's high standards for animal welfare and advancing marine animal health science. The technician assists in welfare programs and actively participates in research projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Support veterinary procedures and treatments for SeaWorld Abu Dhabi's animal collection as directed by the veterinarian.
• Handle and restrain animals safely during veterinary procedures.
• Organize medical treatments, behavioral schedules, husbandry protocols as per leadership guidelines.
• Administer medications, including injections and oral treatments, following hospital policies.
• Observe and report animal behaviors and health conditions to veterinarians and hospital management.
• Assist in emergency veterinary situations promptly.
• Maintain cleanliness of medical spaces, including surgical rooms, kennels, and equipment; perform housekeeping and laundry duties as needed.
• Manage pharmaceutical and medical supply inventories and update tracking systems.
• Take part in medical care and rehabilitation efforts for rescued wildlife such as marine mammals, dugongs, cetaceans, birds, reptiles, and other marine species.
• Assist with anesthesia, radiology, collection and preparation of veterinary samples, including upkeep of veterinary machines.
• Ensure sterilization protocols for surgical instruments using autoclave systems.
• Educate colleagues, management, and sometimes guests on animal health, welfare, and husbandry matters.
• Contribute to animal health research projects, preparing data for presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
• Collaborate with nutrition staff, diagnostics laboratory, and animal care teams.
• Maintain detailed animal records using TRACKS software or equivalent data systems.
• Participate in field rescues, health assessments, and research as needed.
• Work variable shifts including opening, mid, closing, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
• Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 20 kg, extensive walking or standing, and repetitive motions like bending and stooping.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or degree in Veterinary Nursing or a related discipline.
• Eligibility to acquire veterinary nursing technician licensing or certification in the UAE as required.
• Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience as a veterinary nursing technician in a veterinary hospital setting.
• Strong English communication and effective teamwork skills.
• Flexibility and adaptability to evolving animal collection needs.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
• Competence in basic mathematics.

Preferred Attributes

• Board eligibility or recognized membership/diplomate status from a relevant veterinary professional body.
• Familiarity with zoo/aquarium professional communities and non-domestic species management.
• Experience with data entry, hematology and reproductive analyzers, and maintenance scheduling of veterinary equipment.
