About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join Gorey Veterinary Hospital in County Wexford, Ireland. This position offers full-time, part-time, or flexible working options with a salary up to 75,000 depending on experience. Responsibilities

• Manage a varied small animal caseload encompassing medical, surgical, and diagnostic duties.
• Provide high-quality first-opinion veterinary care and develop long-lasting client relationships.
• Independently carry out consultations, routine surgeries, and diagnostic plans within a busy practice setting.
• Participate in a mixed on-call rota including farm animal cases; training and support are available for non-experienced candidates in farm animal care.
• Contribute actively to team communication, collaboration, and case discussions.
• Comply with a fair rota requiring participation in a 1 in 6 Saturday and weekend on-call schedule, with time off in lieu (TOIL) provided for these duties.

Candidate Requirements

• Registration with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI) is mandatory.
• Previous experience in small animal veterinary practice with confidence in independent management of routine first-opinion cases.
• Strong clinical knowledge with skills in medicine, surgery, diagnostics, and case management.
• Excellent communication, professionalism, and collaborative skills.
• Ability to work flexibly; willingness to engage in weekend and Saturday shifts as part of the rota.

Work Environment and Schedule

• Average 40 hours per week for full-time veterinarians, with shifts typically between 8:30am-5:30pm or 10:30am-7:30pm on weekdays.
• Saturday clinics operate 9:00am-2:30pm with TOIL provided; no public opening on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
• A shared out-of-hours service with a neighboring practice to ensure workload balance.
