Veterinary Practitioner - Mixed Practice

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join Gorey Veterinary Hospital in County Wexford, Ireland. This position offers the chance to work in a growing practice that embraces both small and farm animal care, as well as a small amount of equine work. The role is open to full-time, part-time, or flexible work arrangements with competitive salary up to 75,000 depending on experience. A clinic vehicle is also provided.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload with approximately 70% small animals and 30% farm animals.
• Perform clinical duties including consultations, surgeries, and medical diagnostics within the clinic.
• Conduct farm visits, herd health assessments, and tuberculosis testing in the field.
• Make independent clinical decisions and confidently lead first-opinion cases.
• Participate in a fair rota system requiring contribution to Saturday clinics and weekend on-call shifts, with appropriate time off in lieu arrangements.

Requirements and Skills

• Must be registered with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI).
• Proven clinical experience in mixed veterinary practice is essential; this position is not suitable for new graduates or clinicians requiring close supervision.
• Strong communication abilities, sound clinical judgment, and the capacity to work collaboratively within a team.
• Possess a valid, clean driving licence to enable off-site farm workload.

Working Hours & Flexibility

• Typical full-time hours average 40 per week, split between shifts from 8:30am to 5:30pm or 10:30am to 7:30pm on weekdays.
• Options for part-time or tailored flexible arrangements are available by discussion.

Additional Information

Participation in the 1 in 6 Saturday rota and 1 in 6 weekend on-call rota is mandatory for all staff regardless of contract type. Saturday clinics run from 9:00am to 2:30pm with a half-day TOIL provided; full day TOIL is given for weekend on-call. The practice closes on Sundays and bank holidays.
