About the Role
The City of Leduc seeks a dedicated Utility Services Operator II to join the Utility Services department. This permanent, full-time position consists of 40 hours per week and offers an annual salary between $80,184 and $100,235. The role is based at City of Leduc and requires working on site.
Utility Services Operators ensure the smooth functioning of critical water infrastructure that supports community health and safety. This role is highly technical and hands-on, requiring expertise in water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater network maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and service the water distribution system, including inspecting valves, testing fire hydrants, installing meters, and maintaining reservoirs and pumps.
- Maintain wastewater and stormwater collection systems by troubleshooting mains and laterals, inspecting sewers, and servicing lift stations.
- Perform routine water quality sampling and tests to comply with all provincial environmental regulations.
- Diagnose and repair various utility equipment such as vertical turbine pumps, split-case pumps, and pressure-reducing valves.
- Mentor junior operators and seasonal staff, supporting safety and workmanship on the team.
- Take on leadership duties as needed, coordinating daily tasks, safety documentation, and contractor management.
- Participate in on-call rotations and promptly respond to emergency utility situations to protect public safety.
Candidate Profile
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Certified at Alberta Environment Level II for Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection.
- 3 to 5 years of practical experience working in municipal water and wastewater operations.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience troubleshooting pumps, valves, hydrants, and lift station equipment.
- Familiarity with safety protocols including Confined Space Entry, WHMIS, First Aid, and safe excavation.
- Competent using SCADA, GIS mapping software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean record; Class 3 with air brake endorsement considered an asset.
- Post-secondary diploma or certification in water/wastewater technology is advantageous.
