Overview
USIC, a leader in underground utility damage prevention, is seeking dedicated individuals for the Utility Locator position based in Madison, WI. This role offers an outdoor, field-based experience where employees work independently to locate and mark underground utilities for telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer systems. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and safely detect the locations of underground utilities including telecom, electric, cable TV, gas, water, and sewage infrastructure.
- Conduct thorough searches within designated zones, documenting and photographing all utility locates efficiently and precisely.
- Complete required markings and paperwork to support excavators and property owners effectively.
Working Conditions and Schedule
This full-time daytime position involves a 48-hour turnaround for many locate requests, which may require working the day after holidays, weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts including nights and weekends depending on business demands.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting wage of $20.00 per hour with potential merit increases up to 5% after 4, 8, and 12 months.

Candidate Requirements
- Comfort and willingness to work outdoors under varying weather conditions; prior outdoor experience advantageous.
- Technologically proficient and able to operate advanced tools and management systems.
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and on-call as needed.
- Ability to pass a drug screening test due to safety-sensitive duties.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to work in confined spaces and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Color vision sufficient to interpret wiring and marking codes accurately.
- Competency in reading and referencing locate tickets, maps, and construction prints.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with team members, clients, contractors, and residents.
