Urban Design Director

Overview

We are looking for an accomplished Urban Design Director to join our Design team at the Manchester office of Pegasus Group. This key role involves delivering top-tier urban design services, maintaining exceptional standards, and offering guidance to junior team members. Role Scope

The role involves collaboration with a skilled team of designers and architects on urban design and planning activities such as conducting feasibility studies, developing layouts, and crafting development briefs and design strategies primarily for residential and mixed-use projects.

Candidate Profile

• Degree-level education or equivalent with a postgraduate qualification in Architecture or Urban Design.
• Possession of a robust portfolio showcasing expertise in producing well-structured and clearly communicated design documents including Design and Access Statements (DAS), Design Codes, Development Briefs, and Compliance Statements.
• High proficiency in preparing detailed site layouts, street scenes, house types for detailed applications, masterplans, parameter plans, and DAS for outline planning applications.
• Strong design capability with the ability to integrate technical project requirements with placemaking aspirations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills capable of working independently or collaboratively, with minimal supervision and consulting directors on complex matters.
• Experience in supporting, mentoring, and training junior colleagues on technical aspects, project management, and company policies.
• Strong presentation skills and leadership in conducting project meetings and client presentations.
• Proactive work management across multiple projects demonstrating initiative.
• Familiarity with diverse media in design development and documentation processes.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure while maintaining professionalism and composure.
• Experience coordinating with external consultants across disciplines and managing project delivery.
• Demonstrated capability in leading public and stakeholder consultation events across various projects.
