Underground Utility Locator (SUE)

About the Role

HMB Professional Engineers is looking for an experienced Underground Utility Locator to join their Construction/CEI team based in Murfreesboro, TN. This role focuses on expanding Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) capabilities through the identification and mapping of underground utilities using advanced detection methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Locate, identify, and document the location and depths of both underground and overhead utilities.
• Operate specialized detection equipment to locate and mark underground infrastructure.
• Conduct quality assurance and quality control checks on locating activities.
• Carry out assignments in coordination with the Utilities Group Manager and provide assistance as necessary.
• Collaborate effectively with survey field crews and other internal teams.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned to support team objectives.

Qualifications and Expertise

• Five or more years of experience performing underground utility locating.
• Proficiency with equipment such as the vLoc Series 2 Locator or ground penetrating radar.
• Ability to interpret utility maps and engineering prints to identify utility lines accurately.
• Knowledge of 811 utility notification systems and relevant utility contacts.
• Willingness to receive cross-training to become part of the Survey Field Team.
• Physical capability to stand, walk for prolonged periods, bend, stoop, lift heavy objects, and enter confined spaces like manholes as needed.
• Availability to travel as required during weekdays, with occasional evening work.
• Comfort working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
• Self-driven with minimal supervision required.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Must successfully pass background and drug screenings.

This is a full-time onsite position based in Murfreesboro, TN, with a flexible work schedule and potential for hybrid work arrangements.

Additional Information

The compensation range reflects the company's estimate based on experience, skills, and other factors. Final pay will be determined accordingly.
