Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for an Underground Blast Design Engineer to remotely support global underground mining operations by providing expert drill and blast engineering services. This position is part of a growing Remote Engineering & Design Services team based in Hyderabad, focusing on delivering precise and safe blast designs for underground mining projects worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide remote engineering support including review and validation of drill and blast designs, as well as creation of loading packages for global WebGen™ projects.
- Develop and refine underground blast designs ensuring they meet safety, quality, and operational performance standards.
- Serve as a technical reviewer to uphold Orica's blasting standards and critical control requirements.
- Assess blast measurements and analyze performance to suggest improvements and optimize outcomes.
- Evaluate stope performance factors like dilution, recovery, and stability to aid continuous improvement activities.
- Generate technical reports, benchmarking data, and performance analyses for various stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with mining operations, technical service units, WebGen™ specialists, and international engineering teams.
- Maintain timely delivery of engineering services adhering to service level agreements and project deadlines.
- Contribute to team knowledge sharing, mentoring, and capability enhancement.
- Identify opportunities for automation and workflow improvements to streamline engineering service delivery.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering is mandatory.
- At least five years of underground metal mining experience, specializing in drill and blast design and mine planning.
- Proficient in stope design and evaluation, with an understanding of dilution, recovery, blast results, and stope stability factors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of underground mining extraction methods such as Longhole Open Stoping, Cut & Fill, and Sublevel Stoping.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting blast performance data and post-blast reconciliation.
- Competent user of ShotPlus™ UG or equivalent underground blast design software.
- Capable of delivering strong engineering judgments in dynamic operational settings with effective problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities to operate seamlessly across multicultural global teams.
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and committed to safety and quality standards.
- Familiarity with Deswik mine planning tools, WebGen™ systems, or electronic blasting techniques is advantageous.
