Our globally connected teams collaborate seamlessly across disciplines and regions to tackle complex engineering challenges and deliver comprehensive solutions.
Position Summary
The role of Topsides Process Lead Designer is pivotal in orchestrating the creation and coordination of process design outputs for intricate projects such as FPSO, FLNG, and fixed offshore platforms. This position fosters the development of safe, operable, maintainable, and cost-efficient facility designs by integrating process engineering needs with technical deliverables, layouts, diagrams, and cross-disciplinary designs throughout the project lifecycle phases.
Key Responsibilities

- Develop, evaluate, and synchronize key process design documents including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), line lists, layouts, equipment arrangements, and cross-disciplinary documentation.
- Convert engineering inputs such as data sheets, calculations, simulations, and vendor details into cohesive and coordinated design solutions.
- Guarantee harmony between process documentation, 3D models, equipment & piping layouts, and engineering databases.
- Facilitate interface coordination among diverse teams including mechanical, piping, instrumentation, electrical, structural, safety, procurement, construction, commissioning, suppliers, subcontractors, and fabrication yards to troubleshoot design and interface challenges.
- Participate in and support various design and technical reviews including constructability, model, layout, and safety workshops including HAZOP/HAZID assessments.
- Detect design conflicts, operational and constructability difficulties, safety issues, and schedule concerns, and co-ordinate solutions with relevant stakeholders.
- Examine vendor drawings and package information ensuring conformity with process designs and seamless integration into overall facility layouts.
- Maintain thorough engineering documentation including design records, drawing controls, comments, and as-built files per quality and document control standards.
- Oversee assigned scope, manage resource allocation, monitor deliverable timelines, supervise subcontractor work, report progress, and initiate corrective plans as necessary.
- Provide expert mentorship and technical guidance to junior designers and foster continuous improvement within the discipline.
- Support phases beyond design including construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and project handover by resolving design queries and assuring fidelity to design intent.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related fields.
- At least 15 years of experience in topsides process design with focus on FPSO, FLNG, offshore oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, or energy-related projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC/EPCI project execution, construction support, and commissioning activities.
- In-depth understanding of process design deliverables, topsides layout development, and coordination of multidisciplinary design teams.
- Proficient with intelligent P&ID systems, 3D design tools, engineering databases, and document management platforms.
- Strong collaborative and communication skills for effective teamwork with contractors, vendors, and clients.
