Role Overview

The Lead Piping Material Engineer is responsible for overseeing the development and governance of piping material classes, PMS/VMS, valve and specialty item selections, material compliance, corrosion and compatibility assessments, and providing technical input for requisitions across complex plant projects such as FPSO, FLNG, offshore renewable, onshore power, petrochemical, LNG, hydrogen/ammonia, and CCS.

This position is essential in ensuring projects are compliant, safe, constructible, and cost-efficient by defining technical specifications, verifying calculations, resolving technical queries, and preserving the integrity of designs within a multidisciplinary FEED/EPCI environment collaborating closely with engineering, procurement, vendors, fabrication yards, construction, commissioning, and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate piping material class creation and governance, valve/specialty item selection, and compliance to specifications, codes, standards, and client requirements.
• Prepare, update, review, and coordinate the documentation of piping classes, PMS/VMS inputs, valve and specialty item datasheets, requisition inputs, technical bid comments, vendor document assessments, and deviation evaluations ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Define and verify technical requirements, calculations, design bases, specifications, requisitions, vendor comments, and technical query responses for assigned disciplines.
• Manage interfaces with various disciplines including process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, structural, safety, procurement, construction, commissioning, vendors, subcontractors, and fabrication yards to resolve interdisciplinary issues.
• Participate actively in design, model, layout, and constructability reviews at various project stages along with HAZOP/HAZID inputs and client/vendor comment resolution.
• Identify and communicate constructability issues, interface risks, data or material concerns, schedule impacts, and changes needing management with clear mitigation strategies.
• Maintain detailed engineering records including drawing and model data, review comments, calculations, registers, and as-built information in line with quality and document control protocols.
• Manage scope, manpower allocation, deliverable schedules, subcontractor interactions, progress reporting, and implement recovery actions for at-risk or delayed deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Piping, Marine/Offshore, Electrical, Chemical/Process, or closely related engineering fields is required.
• Advanced qualifications such as a Master’s degree or specialized training are preferred.
