Role Overview

The Toolmaker (Workshop Machinist) is responsible for delivering precision machining and toolmaking services, manufacturing components to rigorous standards with tight tolerances. The role requires both independent and collaborative working styles, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, mentoring apprentices, and promoting a safe and efficient workplace aligned with the company’s values and practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate manual toolroom machines including Vertical Borers, Lathes, Milling Machines, and Surface Grinders proficiently.
  • Maintain high standards of product quality throughout manufacturing processes.
  • Interpret and work effectively from engineering drawings.
  • Perform machining work with precision, adhering to tight tolerances and fine detail requirements.
  • Work autonomously and take initiative in completing tasks.
  • Ensure health, safety, and welfare protocols are observed for self and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with team members to refine working practices continuously.
  • Support apprentice development by providing training and competency guidance.
  • Participate in meetings as required to report on progress and issues.
  • Comply with all company policies including quality management, safety, environmental, and HR protocols.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified and time-served Toolmaker/Machinist with additional skills in Mechanical Fitting.
  • Proven experience within the toolmaking or machine shop environment.
  • Confident communicator capable of engaging across all business levels.
  • Logical thinker with strong analytical capabilities.
  • Efficient operator with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Eager to learn from colleagues and share best practices.
  • Thorough, determined, and focused on achieving results.
