Position Overview
We are seeking a certified Tool & Die Maker to join a reputable manufacturing firm in Woodstock, Ontario. This permanent, full-time opportunity offers a competitive hourly wage starting between $44 and $45. The role involves fabricating, repairing, and maintaining stamping dies, tools, fixtures, and gauges to support production and reduce operational downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct, repair, and maintain metal stamping dies, including tools, gauges, fixtures, and jigs.
- Execute both preventative and corrective maintenance to minimize interruptions in production.
- Diagnose tooling problems, assessing wear, fatigue, or failure risks.
- Complete die repair, rebuilding, and machining tasks following scheduled plans.
- Operate varied toolroom equipment such as mills, grinders, lathes, and hand tools with precision.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, tooling instructions, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
- Collaborate with Engineering teams to assist in tooling construction and project launches.
- Advise on enhancements for tooling longevity, usability, and efficiency.
- Maintain comprehensive records of tooling maintenance and repairs.
- Adhere to established tooling procedures and service protocols.
- Ensure that the toolroom and equipment areas remain clean, organized, and well-maintained.
- Comply rigorously with all company health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Work cooperatively with teams across Production, Engineering, and Toolroom.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Tool & Die apprentices when necessary.
- Carry out additional duties associated with tooling and the toolroom as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Preferably possess over five years of applied experience in building or maintaining metal stamping dies.
- Hold a Certificate of Qualification for Tool and Die Maker (431A or 430A).
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in reading blueprints and GD&T.
- Have practical, hands-on experience with stamping dies and tooling systems.
- Exhibit robust troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Be adept with various toolroom equipment including mills, grinders, lathes, and hand tools.
- Be capable of working independently as well as supporting a team environment.
- Show meticulous attention to quality and detail.
- Operate safely within a manufacturing and toolroom setting.
- Adapt comfortably to environments with variable temperatures and elevated noise.
- Possess necessary personal hand tools for the role.
- Welding skills (TIG/MIG) are advantageous.
- Certification for crane operation is a plus.
- Experience with stainless steel automotive stamping applications will be considered an asset.
