Job description

About Halter

Halter is dedicated to empowering farmers and graziers to run the most effective and sustainable agricultural practices. Their innovative technology allows cattle to move calmly and independently without traditional tools such as quad bikes, dogs, or fences, revolutionizing grazing methods and transforming agricultural industries worldwide. By joining Halter, you'll work alongside a talented team committed to delivering significant impacts through challenging and meaningful work, supported by top-tier investors.

Role Overview

As a Test Lab Technician at Halter, you will be integral to ensuring the durability and reliability of Halter collars, which are expected to last 6-10 years and are non-serviceable and non-repairable. You will be responsible for operating the test lab, including setting up and running tests, moving and configuring test equipment, maintaining and calibrating machinery, and organizing the lab environment. This role demands meticulous attention to detail and consistent execution to uphold the high standards essential for quality decisions based on lab testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, execute, and supervise hardware testing aligned with established test procedures.
  • Relocate, install, and adjust collars across multiple test rigs.
  • Operate production and verification test jigs for collar assessment.
  • Manage maintenance activities for lab equipment including servicing, calibration checks, and troubleshooting to promptly restore faulty equipment.
  • Coordinate the installation, commissioning, and safe integration of new lab instruments in collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Assemble and modify testing apparatus, fixtures, and jigs to support ongoing equipment build projects.
  • Develop and sustain organizational systems for lab operations, including labeling, storage, sample tracking, and inventory management.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of test activities, equipment used, and results to ensure traceability for analytical and reporting purposes.
  • Proactively communicate test progress, barriers, equipment status, and timelines with the Hardware Test team.
  • Adhere to and enhance safety and cleanliness protocols within the lab, identifying and reporting hazards or near-miss incidents.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned periodically.

Candidate Profile

  • Prior hands-on experience in laboratory, workshop, production, or field service environments, ideally with an electronics, mechatronics, or engineering focus.
  • Skilled in practical tasks including using hand and power tools, mechanical assembly, basic soldering and wiring, and operation of test instruments such as multimeters and power supplies.
  • A strong commitment to accuracy and process adherence, following test procedures meticulously, recording data precisely, and flagging anomalies promptly.
  • An organized individual motivated by establishing systems that maintain order sustainably rather than one-off tidying.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying and undertaking necessary tasks without needing external prompts.
  • Effective communicator who can collaborate closely with engineers and ask clarifying questions when needed.
  • Curious and consistent in understanding product mechanics and testing rationales, maintaining high quality over time.
  • Team-oriented with humility, aiming to contribute collaboratively and support the team front lines.

Diversity & Inclusion

Halter values diversity and inclusion, encouraging applicants who may not meet every listed requirement but believe they could be an excellent fit to apply and engage in conversation.

Why Join Halter?

  • Opportunity to contribute to a meaningful mission that positively impacts farmers’ lives and promotes sustainable agriculture.
  • Collaborate with exceptional and diverse colleagues tackling real-world challenges.
  • Supportive environment fostering continuous learning, autonomy, and personal growth, including a $1,000 fund for professional development.
  • A challenging yet rewarding workplace dedicated to rapid innovation and industry transformation.
