Job description
About Portcast and the Role
Portcast is a Singapore-based logistics technology startup, backed by venture capital, dedicated to enabling freight forwarders to transform data into actionable insights and tangible business improvements. Using AI, Portcast identifies shipment exceptions, predicts cost risks, and highlights necessary actions, empowering teams to prioritize shipments needing attention, control freight costs, and confidently make procurement decisions. Founded in 2018, the company operates with a lean and globally distributed team amidst the ongoing digital transformation of the logistics industry.
This role involves ownership of the delivery status of product initiatives during execution phases. Reporting directly to the Senior Product Manager, the Technical Program Manager ensures clear accountability across Engineering, Data, and Solutions teams, tracks progress, manages dependencies, and proactively identifies risks early to prevent launch issues. This individual must possess a deep understanding of the product, technology, and data, enabling close monitoring of work progress and identifying discrepancies from intended outcomes, addressing issues before they impact testing or releases. The position is hands-on and presents a pioneering opportunity to establish delivery management practices as the company scales, requiring daily overlap with Asia-based technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Take end-to-end ownership of initiative delivery from kickoff to release, ensuring clarity of roles, timely start of tasks, visible progress, and smooth development, testing, and deployment.
- Monitor and manage cross-functional dependencies, surface risks, blockers, scope changes, and potential delays promptly.
- Facilitate coordination across Product, Engineering, Data, and Solutions teams for clarity on ownership, understanding dependencies, and sharing context needed by all stakeholders.
- Oversee the handover process and readiness for launch between involved teams to ensure smooth testing and acceptance.
- Maintain alignment between execution and product intent by recognizing divergences early and communicating these to Product for timely clarification.
- Establish and maintain a transparent source of truth comprising updated tickets, timelines, project status, decisions, and risks to streamline team awareness and focus attention effectively.
- Promote progress and accountability without imposing unnecessary bureaucracy by participating in relevant standups and working sessions to enable rapid issue resolution.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
- At least three years of experience in project or program management, delivery, product operations, or analogous roles.
- Demonstrated track record of driving project completion and maintaining momentum involving multiple technical and cross-functional teams, particularly within startups or B2B SaaS environments, preferably in data-intensive fields and ideally within logistics or supply chain technology sectors.
- Strong technical acumen with the capability to understand code, the architecture of systems and data pipelines, and collaborate effectively with engineers and data scientists to distinguish critical blockers from routine issues.
- Exceptional execution focus with attention to detail, persistence in pursuing loose ends, and diligent follow-up on dependencies.
- Analytical problem-solving based on first principles to diagnose underlying causes of issues and engage appropriate stakeholders for resolution.
- Comfort navigating ambiguous situations by creating clarity and advancing progress when details such as requirements or ownership are not fully defined.
- Excellent communication skills enabling translation between Product, Engineering, Data, and client-facing teams, ensuring clarity, escalation of issues without excessive noise, and understanding of diverse team needs.
- High sense of ownership with dedication to overseeing delivery status thoroughly until resolution.
- Adaptability consistent with a startup ethos, willing to delve into operational details, tackle problems hands-on, and develop streamlined processes where truly beneficial.
What You Gain
- Accountability for a pivotal high-impact role that drives the timeliness and reliability of transforming product concepts into deliverables accessible to customers.
- Exposure at the intersection of Product, AI, Data, and Logistics, tackling complex challenges involving software, machine learning, data workflows, and customer requirements.
- Meaningful contribution from day one within a lean team structure, with significant autonomy and responsibility without burden of extensive project management overhead.
- Remote-first working environment across globally distributed teams embedded in trust, accountability, and collaboration.
Core Values
- Curiosity: Investigate root causes and remain closely engaged with the data and actual work.
- Ownership: Act like a founder by taking comprehensive end-to-end responsibility for projects until clean delivery.
- Raising the Bar: Strive beyond merely launching to achieve predictable, aligned, and surprise-free delivery.
- Effectiveness: Prioritize delivering intended results on time with genuine impact rather than process adherence for its own sake.
