About the Role
The Data Platform team at CNN orchestrates the collection and analysis of essential data to guide strategic product and business choices. Your role as Technical Program Manager II focuses on advancing the modernization of CNN's multi-layered analytics platform into Nova, the unified source for digital behavioral insights that supports near real-time analysis and personalization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead project initiatives by defining scope, managing schedules, coordinating releases, and ensuring timely completion.
- Engage cross-functional teams—engineering, product, and stakeholders—to align objectives and strategies effectively.
- Identify and manage risks and impediments early, proposing proactive solutions to maintain project flow.
- Provide technical insight by understanding system architectures and integration points to guide informed decision-making.
- Produce detailed project documentation and deliver clear status reports on progress, risks, and impacts across organizational levels.
- Create and refine dashboards and reporting tools using platforms such as Domo, Tableau, or similar to oversee program health and guide stakeholders with data-driven insights.
- Enhance operational processes focusing on reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement through data and metrics analysis.
- Contribute to shaping long-term technology and product strategies, helping craft roadmaps for technical teams.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three years in technical program management within technical or cloud/SaaS environments managing complex, cross-team projects.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong proficiency in managing project scope, schedules, budgets, and risks.
- Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills tailored for diverse organizational participants.
- Solid technical knowledge that facilitates deep collaboration with engineering teams on complex technical and data flow topics.
- Practical experience with dashboarding and BI platforms (Domo, Tableau, or similar) for tracking metrics, program health, and trends.
- Competency in SQL for independent data investigation, metric validation, and translating findings into actionable insights.
- Fluency in modern data architectures including event instrumentation, pipelines, batch/stream systems, data models, API integrations, data quality, lineage, and observability.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and technologies such as AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, Kafka/Kinesis, Spark, and Airflow.
- Knowledge of data governance, including quality management, SLAs/SLOs, monitoring, incident response, privacy, access controls, metadata, and lineage.
