Your Role
We are seeking a Software Developer II with a passion and proficiency for technical writing. This role centers on simplifying complex technical information and transforming it into clear, comprehensive documentation. You'll collaborate with varied teams — including front-end, back-end, mobile, and design systems — to improve onboarding for engineers, designers, program managers, and end users throughout CNN's digital ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the technical documentation strategy for CNN Digital.
- Create, update, and maintain accessible, user-friendly technical documentation that sets organizational standards.
- Collaborate intensively with full-stack engineering teams, designers, program managers, and stakeholders to gather relevant information for documentation.
- Enhance the onboarding process by developing resources tailored to engineers, designers, program managers, and consumers interacting with platforms like CNN.com.
- Depend on initiative and self-direction to engage across diverse, distributed teams to collect and synthesize information.
- Contribute technically using skills in JavaScript, Java, and Python, and familiarize yourself with other programming languages as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of software engineering experience focused on building scalable systems.
- Hands-on experience in technical writing, especially related to software and system architecture documentation.
- Comfortable programming in JavaScript, Java, and Python, with the ability to understand additional languages for documentation purposes.
- Familiarity with documentation platforms such as Markdown, Confluence, or GitHub Wiki is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical matters clearly both in writing and verbally.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working in a dispersed, multi-location team environment with limited supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and detail-oriented approaches in both coding and documentation.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Additional Information
Compensation for this role ranges from $94,200 to $150,700 annually, commensurate with experience and other factors. Total rewards may also include bonuses, incentives, and additional recognition programs.
