Technical Manager MEP

Overview

We seek a seasoned Technical Manager for MEP to guide all technical and engineering operations on significant high-rise, mixed-use, and large-scale building projects within the UAE. This role encompasses end-to-end management of the MEP technical function covering design review, engineering coordination, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and final handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all technical and engineering tasks concerning Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, Fire Alarm, and ELV systems.
• Handle design reviews, technical submissions, shop and material submissions, RFIs, method statements, and resolve technical queries.
• Examine IFC drawings, specifications, BOQ, and contract conditions to detect any technical inconsistencies, risks, or potential improvements.
• Direct multidisciplinary coordination including MEP, Civil, Structural, Architectural, Façade, and specialized systems.
• Manage engineering deliverables scheduling ensuring alignment with construction timelines.
• Develop technical solutions for complex design, coordination, and construction challenges.
• Coordinate approvals in collaboration with consultants, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers promptly.
• Supervise MEP procurement processes including technical assessment of materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
• Ensure all technical activities meet project specifications, international standards, and UAE regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to value engineering efforts by identifying compliant, cost-saving alternatives.
• Review project variations and technical changes supporting the Commercial and Contracts teams in claim justifications.
• Monitor MEP installations ensuring engineering specifications are adhered to on-site.
• Lead technical coordination for testing, commissioning, inspections, and handover procedures.
• Ensure meticulous preparation of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and project closure documents.
• Manage and mentor teams including Technical Engineers, Design Coordinators, MEP Engineers, and BIM/Engineering personnel.
• Participate actively in meetings covering technical progress with senior management, consultants, and clients.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 15 to 20 years of extensive experience in MEP engineering and construction.
• Preferred background includes working with Main or Tier-1 Contractors.
• Proven track record in delivering high-rise, luxury residential, hotel, commercial, mixed-use, or large-scale mega building projects.
• Comprehensive experience managing projects across all stages from design to handover including testing and commissioning.
• Expertise in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Drainage, Fire Fighting, Fire Alarm, ELV, and associated building systems.
• Thorough knowledge of technical specifications, contracts, BOQ, IFC, and shop drawings.
• Strong understanding of UAE authority regulations such as Municipality, Civil Defence, and utilities compliance.
• Familiarity with FIDIC and construction contract management.
• Skilled in technical coordination, value engineering, procurement, and subcontractor oversight.
• Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• PMP or similar certification is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing full technical and engineering lifecycle of intricate MEP packages including coordination of specialist systems.
• Knowledge in complex systems such as district cooling, Building Management Systems (BMS), chiller plants, water treatment, life safety systems, low current systems, and commissioning.
• Experience with major UAE projects exceeding AED 1 billion especially hospitality and mixed-use developments provides strong advantage.
