Technical & Engineering Director

Role Overview

The Technical & Engineering Director is accountable for leading all technical and engineering operations within a luxury hotel construction project managed by a main contractor. This role involves oversight of engineering design management, the implementation of value engineering, construction method strategies, preparation and approval of method statements, shop drawings, material submissions, and technical compliance approvals. Additionally, the director shapes engineering standards and best practices essential for the project's successful execution.

Primary Duties

• Establish and execute the technical and engineering strategy in line with both project goals and broader business targets.
• Lead, cultivate, and administrate a talented engineering team fostering quality, creativity, and operational efficiency.
• Supervise all engineering tasks to guarantee punctual completion, cost management, and adherence to regulations and standards.
• Evaluate and authorize method statements, technical submissions, shop drawings, and material proposals.
• Promote value engineering and innovative construction methods tailored for luxury hospitality developments.
• Collaborate effectively with construction, commercial, procurement, health and safety, and operational departments.
• Assess and manage technical and design-related risks through all project phases.
• Oversee the engineering budget to ensure effective allocation and use of resources.
• Advance and enforce health, safety, and environmental policies, with an emphasis on safety awareness and incident reporting aligning with Integrated Management Systems.

Knowledge and Expertise

• Extensive hands-on expertise in crafting detailed construction methodologies and method statements.
• Deep understanding of engineering principles, materials engineering, drawings, and specifications.
• Proficient skills in approving and managing technical drawings and design documents.
• Firm grasp of project management principles and best practices.
• Familiarity with ERP systems, SAP experience preferred.

Professional Experience

• A minimum of 20 years of professional experience, with at least 10 years in a supervisory capacity relevant to this role.
• Experience within the GCC region is beneficial.
• Previous involvement with main contractors focused on luxury hotel or upscale hospitality projects is strongly preferred.

Education and Certification

• Bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering.
• Professional registration such as MMUP or UPDA is required or highly desirable.
