Role Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Director specializing in pavement engineering to join our Melbourne or Sydney team. This senior role involves providing technical leadership across sectors including aviation and pavements, influencing project outcomes through expert guidance and developing the next generation of pavement specialists.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on major infrastructure projects, overseeing design of flexible and rigid pavements, material selection, rehabilitation, and construction processes.
• Conduct independent technical reviews ensuring high quality of designs, specifications, and engineering reports.
• Consult with clients on complex pavement issues, translating findings into practical, actionable solutions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage design coordination, technical risks, and delivery objectives.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, identify business opportunities, and lead technical proposals and bids.
• Mentor engineers and leaders, enhancing specialist knowledge and engineering judgement within the team.
• Drive the growth of AECOM’s pavement practice nationwide by contributing to capability building, knowledge sharing, and cross-network collaboration.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field with over 20 years of professional pavement engineering experience, primarily in consulting environments.
• Expertise in pavement design, evaluation, rehabilitation methodologies, materials technology, and construction techniques.
• Proven track record managing complex pavement projects in aviation, highways, ports, defense, or heavy-duty infrastructure sectors.
• Extensive knowledge of Australian standards, design approaches, and pavement investigation methodologies.
• Chartered Engineer status and RPEQ registration or eligibility to obtain it.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, managing project scope, budgets, and mitigation of technical risks.
• Ability to translate technical expertise into client advice and successful project development.
• Collaborative leadership style with a passion for mentoring and developing talent.
