Technical Design Lead

Overview

Studio Échelle in Doha, Qatar is seeking a seasoned Technical Design Lead / Senior Technical Interior Designer to spearhead the technical execution and delivery of interior design projects. This full-time, onsite position requires hands-on expertise in transforming approved design concepts into comprehensive and coordinated tender and construction documentation that contractors can use for accurate pricing and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the creation of complete tender and construction drawing packages.
• Develop and review detailed plans, elevations, sections, and construction details.
• Produce comprehensive joinery, millwork, ceiling, flooring, wall cladding, and bathroom documentation.
• Draft lighting, power, plumbing, and sanitary layouts aligned with approved interior designs.
• Prepare and manage Bills of Quantities (BOQs), quantity take-offs, material specifications, and schedules.
• Conduct thorough reviews of architectural and MEP drawings to identify clashes, discrepancies, and missing elements.
• Collaborate closely with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal design teams to coordinate technical requirements.
• Evaluate shop drawings, material submittals, and technical proposals.
• Address technical Requests for Information (RFIs) and provide on-site support during construction phases.
• Ensure all drawing packages are accurate, well-coordinated, and complete prior to submission.
• Maintain and enhance studio standards, details, and templates for technical drawings.
• Guide and oversee the work of junior and mid-level designers when needed.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or related discipline.
• A minimum of 6 years’ professional experience relevant to the role.
• Proven track record leading and producing comprehensive technical packages for interior fit-out projects.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
• In-depth knowledge of interior construction methods, detailing, materials, finishes, and joinery systems.
• Experience in preparing BOQs, material specifications, and detailed schedules.
• Strong understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) coordination within interior projects.
• Excellent technical problem-solving and coordination abilities.
• Highly attentive to detail and capable of handling multiple projects concurrently.
• Fluent in both spoken and written English.
• Experience working in Qatar or Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries is advantageous.
• Background in high-end residential, hospitality, food & beverage, and commercial interior projects.

Additional Information

This role focuses primarily on technical delivery rather than concept design or 3D visualization. Applicants must demonstrate strong skills in driving projects from concept approval through detailed documentation and construction support.
