Overview

Selwyn District Council is seeking a dynamic Team Leader to join its Planning Leadership team in a permanent, full-time capacity located in Rolleston, Canterbury. The role offers a diverse array of planning challenges due to the district's mix of expansive rural landscapes and rapid urban expansion.

Role Purpose

The Team Leader will oversee the Resource Consents function, focusing on efficient, timely, and high-quality delivery of services while maintaining superior customer service standards for the community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Resource Consents team to ensure accurate and timely planning analysis.
  • Support the team through coaching and mentoring, fostering individual growth and success.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive work culture where employees feel empowered.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners to achieve team and organizational goals.
  • Manage decision-making on resource consent applications within delegation limits and supervise Environment Court appeals.

Experience and Skills Required

  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills, with at least five years in a senior planning role involving resource consents.
  • Expertise in planning decision-making and appeals management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships fostering trust and continuous improvement.

Salary and Terms

The salary range is NZD 128,788 to NZD 171,718 annually (Grade 20), depending on the candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience.
