Job description
Role Overview
The Governance Advisor plays an essential role in delivering exceptional governance services to elected officials, senior management, and staff members. This role involves advising on governance procedures, legislative compliance, meeting processes, and decision-making duties. Additionally, the position supports the enhancement of local government systems, frameworks, and governance practices.
Key Duties
Collaborating closely with the Governance Lead, elected representatives, Executive Leadership Team, and council personnel, the Advisor will facilitate council meetings, committees, community boards, workshops, and hearings. They will provide guidance on Standing Orders, the Local Government Act 2002, the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA), and other governance-related statutory requirements.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess confidence and experience in governance, compliance, or risk advisory roles, exhibiting sound judgement and excellent communication abilities. The role demands proficiency in handling confidential information, report analysis, legal interpretation, and clear advisory communication within a public sector or similarly regulated environment.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Proven background in governance, compliance, or risk management as an advisor or coordinator.
- Experience in preparing agendas and formally recording minutes, preferably within local government or a similar sector.
- Strong skills in writing, editing, organization, and managing time effectively.
- High digital proficiency, especially with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of local government operations, political procedures, and related legislation like the Local Government Act 2002 and LGOIMA is advantageous.
