Role Overview

This permanent full-time position based in Christchurch offers a significant leadership opportunity within Environment Canterbury’s information management function. Reporting to the Enterprise Data & Information Services Manager, the Team Leader will guide a team responsible for delivering advanced, efficient information management solutions that enhance accessibility, security, compliance, and overall utility of organisational data and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the ongoing development and improvement of information management services across the council.
• Oversee enterprise information systems, including Microsoft 365 and related digital platforms.
• Champion the adoption of modern digital working methods and information management tools.
• Coach and mentor the information management team, fostering high performance.
• Ensure adherence to policies, legal requirements, and archival standards relating to information management.
• Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with senior leadership, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Lead organisational change initiatives aimed at enhancing the information culture, user engagement, and digital workflows.
• Provide strategic thought leadership to influence the direction and practical outcomes of information management initiatives.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have extensive leadership experience in information management, with an ability to balance strategic vision and operational execution effectively. You should be adept at developing others’ capabilities, simplifying complex challenges, and partnering with stakeholders to achieve customer-focused results. A passion for improving organisational information handling and strong technical knowledge are essential.

Experience and Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Management, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
• At least five years’ experience within information management or digital information functions.
• Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Experience managing platforms such as Microsoft 365.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and change management skills.
• Experience working within complex organisations, preferably local government or other regulated environments, will be advantageous.
