Job description

Overview

This role contributes to the U.S. tax department by supporting compliance with sales and use tax requirements. The position emphasizes process adherence, precise data handling, and routine support tasks rather than in-depth tax analysis or complex research.

Key Duties

  • Extract transactional and financial information from source systems per predefined reports or instructions.
  • Enter and maintain sales and use tax data within Vertex and related tax software platforms.
  • Prepare workpapers and documentation that support the filing of recurrent sales and use tax returns.
  • Generate reconciliations, schedule roll-forwards, and support documentation to facilitate tax filings.
  • Maintain tax filing calendars, compliance tracking tools, jurisdiction records, and status logs.
  • Support exemption certificate tracking, respond to documentation requests, and manage relevant tax records as assigned.
  • Collect and organize information for internal teams, auditors, external consultants, or tax authorities.
  • Verify data entries and workpapers for thoroughness, accuracy, and adherence to templates.
  • Assist in recurring compliance efforts, documentation upkeep, data sanitation, and process enhancements.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a similar discipline.
  • Two to four years' experience in sales and use tax, indirect tax compliance, accounting, shared services, or analogous support roles.
  • Proven experience with Vertex software; familiarity with Oracle EBS is advantageous.
  • Past involvement in preparing U.S. sales and use tax returns is essential.
  • Knowledge of exemption certificates, resale certificates, or similar indirect tax documentation is preferred.
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, including formula use, lookups, data filtering, and handling large datasets.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
  • Ability to follow standardized processes, templates, and detailed instructions precisely.
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage recurring filing deadlines efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills with U.S.-based tax teams and external advisors.
  • Self-driven, reliable, and comfortable handling repetitive compliance support duties.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience supporting sales and use tax compliance within shared services or outsourcing frameworks.
  • Competence in gathering, formatting, and validating transaction data for indirect tax filing purposes.
  • Process and detail-oriented with consistency in application of standard workpaper procedures.
  • Able to manage large volumes of transactional data and keep support files well-organized.
  • Comfortable coordinating work across different time zones with U.S.-based teams.
