Maincode is a company focused on AI research and engineering, responsible for developing Matilda, a large language model uniquely trained, hosted, and deployed in Melbourne, Australia. The team manages their own GPU resources in local data centers and creates all infrastructure layers including racks, training and serving systems, along with the applications that utilize them.

Role Overview

The primary challenge at Maincode isn’t technological but rather identifying and recruiting the few qualified individuals capable of advancing a cutting-edge AI company. The Talent Engineer plays a crucial role in this process by leading the technical screening phase for engineering candidates, conducting rigorous evaluations to verify candidate knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical interviews and screenings of engineering applicants to determine their suitability for hiring.
• Develop and implement systems and tools that automate and streamline candidate evaluation, including dashboards and screening software.
• Collaborate regularly with the talent acquisition and engineering teams to ensure alignment and effectiveness.
• Maintain close communication with engineers responsible for later interview stages to calibrate evaluation standards.

Candidate Profile

• Background in computer science or comparable practical expertise suitable for assessing fundamental technical concepts.
• Interest and aptitude in both technology and interpersonal understanding.
• Capability to write code by hand proficiently to create functional tools, without the responsibility of full-scale production engineering.
• Possess a balance of warmth in communication and precision in assessment.
