Job description
Role Overview
The Sustainability Manager is tasked with designing, executing, and supervising sustainability strategies to enhance environmental performance, operational effectiveness, regulatory adherence, and the organization’s longevity. This role translates sustainability goals into concrete programs, measurable objectives, and implementable plans across business areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement sustainability policies, frameworks, targets, and action plans.
- Monitor environmental performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvements in energy efficiency, resource use, waste minimization, water conservation, carbon footprint reduction, and sustainable procurement.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to embed sustainability principles into operations, projects, procedures, and decision-making.
- Gather and analyze sustainability data, prepare reports on performance, track vital indicators, and assist in sustainability disclosures and evaluations.
- Stay updated on environmental laws, standards, certifications, and industry trends to ensure initiatives meet regulatory and best practice benchmarks.
- Lead cross-functional projects, engage stakeholders, assess sustainability risks and prospects, and convey complex environmental concepts clearly and pragmatically.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related fields.
- Comprehensive understanding of sustainability principles, environmental management, climate concerns, resource efficiency, and ethical business practices.
- Knowledge in areas such as carbon emissions, energy and waste management, water conservation, sustainable procurement, and environmental performance metrics.
- Familiarity with sustainability standards, reporting frameworks, certifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Capable of crafting sustainability strategies, policies, measurable targets, action plans, and performance indicators.
- Strong analytical abilities to collect, interpret, validate, and present sustainability data effectively.
- Competent in monitoring KPIs related to sustainability and preparing clear, succinct reports and presentations for management.
- Excellent project management and organizational capabilities to coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Outstanding communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills to foster collaboration and influence.
- Problem-solving aptitude combined with a results-driven mindset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, data analysis software, and sustainability reporting or management tools is advantageous.
- Aware of new environmental trends, innovative sustainability technologies, and sector best practices.
- Proactive, strategic, detail-oriented, and dedicated to achieving tangible sustainability results.
