About Corlann and the Role
Corlann – West Region offers person-centered community services tailored to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Their mission is to enable individuals to live fulfilling lives within their communities, promoting family connections and independence in line with national and international best practices. Bruach na Mara Adult Services, located in South Connemara, provides a variety of community-based supports including day care, residential, respite, community outreach, and multidisciplinary assistance, fostering valued social participation and friendships.
The organisation seeks innovative, adaptable, and motivated individuals to join their team as Support Workers. Initial placement will be within one of the Bruach na Mara services (residential, respite, day care, or community settings) with possible future reassignments based on service demands.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with intellectual disabilities in daily living activities, emphasizing skill development and independence.
- Support achievement of personal goals and encourage participation in typical community activities through inclusive and creative approaches.
- Carry out all personal care tasks during the day, including meal preparation, housework, intimate care, and overall physical well-being.
Qualifications and Experience
- Good general education is required; relevant qualifications such as FETAC or QQI Level 5 or higher in intellectual disability care are preferred.
- Possession of a full, clean manual driving licence valid for Irish roads is mandatory; candidates may be assisted to obtain a Class D1 driving licence if needed.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, or complex needs is advantageous but not essential as training is provided.
- Strong team collaboration, flexibility, patience, and a good sense of humor are important personal attributes.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written, and competency in IT skills are required.
Working Conditions and Remuneration
- The role consists of a 78-hour work schedule per fortnight based on a 14-day roster, which includes weekends, public holidays, split shifts, evening/night duties, and sleep-ins as required.
- The service model is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring flexibility to ensure quality, person-centered support.
- Annual leave entitlement is 23 days per year pro-rata (8.46 hours per 100 hours worked).
- Salary is aligned with Department of Health scales effective from June 1, 2026, ranging from 34,881 to 47,624 annually pro-rata for part-time roles, with additional payments for weekends, public holidays, night duties, and sleep-ins. Long service increment applies after 3 years at the top of scale.
- Incremental credit may be granted for verified prior public sector experience.
Additional Information
- Permanent full-time and temporary full-time positions are currently available, with a panel to be formed for future recruitment over 6 to 12 months.
- A 9-month probation period applies, during which employment may be terminated if suitability is not confirmed; extension of this period is at the employer's discretion.
