Job description
Overview
BOBST is a global leader in providing equipment and services to the packaging and label manufacturing industries, including sectors like folding cartons, corrugated boards, and flexible materials. We are searching for experienced individuals to join us as Supplier Validation Engineers, Senior Engineers, or Assistant Managers based in Pune, India.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and supplier quality initiatives for both new and ongoing parts.
- Possess in-depth technical knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, gear production, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
- Analyze and interpret engineering drawings including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), and inspection requirements, offering technical assistance to suppliers.
- Conduct and support supplier process audits, validation of processes, and product inspections to ensure quality standards are met.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspections and measurement techniques.
- Expertly operate precision measuring instruments including vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, dial gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Evaluate dimensional and process data to pinpoint variations and identify potential risks related to quality.
- Take charge of supplier quality issues by applying 8D methodology, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate closely with suppliers, engineering, purchasing, production, and quality departments to resolve technical issues and enhance product quality.
- Support supplier development efforts, oversee part qualification, validation processes, and ensure readiness for production.
- Monitor supplier performance continuously and drive quality improvements and process capability enhancements.
Decision-Making Authority
- Operate independently within specified Supplier Quality processes, standards, engineering requirements, and project deadlines.
- Plan and execute supplier quality activities autonomously, including APQP, PPAP, audits, validation, inspections, and supplier development initiatives.
- Identify supplier-related quality risks, initiate immediate containment actions, and propose corrective measures based on professional technical judgement.
- Decide on suitable inspection strategies, measurement techniques, and escalation protocols adhering to established procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering or any related specialization.
- Over 10 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in automotive, construction equipment, or farm equipment sectors.
Additional Information
The role requires strong expertise spanning sheet metal, fabrication and welding, machining, castings, and gears. Candidates with a technical background and the ability to independently manage supplier quality functions throughout the product development lifecycle are encouraged to apply.
