About the Company

A prominent specialist in structural steel is expanding its commercial team and seeks a Structural Steel Estimator based in New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland. The company is recognized for quality in steel fabrication and erection across a variety of sectors including commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, data centres, and infrastructure projects, with a strong reputation for engineering excellence and customer service.

Role Overview

This full-time permanent position entails playing a crucial part in winning new contracts by generating precise and competitive cost estimates for structural steel projects. The role involves close collaboration with clients, engineers, architects, suppliers, and internal teams to evaluate tender documents, produce cost analyses, and support tender submissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection contracts.
  • Analyze architectural, structural, and fabrication blueprints alongside project requirements.
  • Review tender documentation to identify project scopes, potential risks, and opportunities.
  • Generate detailed material take-offs and schedules.
  • Solicit and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, and clients throughout the tendering process.
  • Prepare comprehensive tender packages within established deadlines.
  • Participate in pre-tender and post-tender meetings as necessary.
  • Contribute to value engineering processes to develop cost-effective solutions.
  • Maintain organized records of all estimates, price data, and tender materials.
  • Support project handovers to the commercial team after contract awards.
  • Track market trends and material pricing to ensure competitiveness in submissions.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Prior experience estimating structural steel fabrication projects.
  • Background in structural steel or related construction sectors.
  • Strong familiarity with structural steel drawings and engineering documents.
  • Proven track record preparing detailed tender submissions.
  • High commercial awareness and analytical ability.
  • Excellent numerical, organizational, and Excel skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tender processes concurrently under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid full driving licence.
  • Eligible to work in Ireland.

Desirable Skills and Attributes

  • Experience with estimating software tools.
  • Knowledge of steel fabrication and erection techniques.
  • Understanding of procurement and supply chain processes.
  • Familiarity with BIM or Tekla software and drawings.
  • Higher education in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields.
