Staff Software Engineer (Backend)

Role Responsibilities

• Manage one or more software applications end-to-end.
• Lead the design, architectural planning, and development of complex software systems, including frameworks and libraries, ensuring they possess high quality, scalability, and performance.
• Develop and guide the engineering roadmap driving operational excellence.
• Analyze and optimize system performance to maintain scalability and responsiveness.
• Engage in project planning and estimation to meet deadlines and milestones consistently.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with teams and stakeholders to clarify software requirements and translate them into development tasks.
• Provide technical mentorship and leadership to junior engineers, fostering their growth.
• Conduct code reviews to enforce coding standards and best development practices within the team.
• Stay informed on emerging technologies, frameworks, and development practices, and actively share insights with the team.
• Participate in recruiting efforts to attract top talent for Quince.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Strong foundations in computer science fundamentals.
• At least 8 years of experience working with backend web technologies.
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in Java, Spring/Spring Boot frameworks, and both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Proven expertise in designing and managing highly reliable, distributed web applications operating at scale.
• Solid understanding of concurrency models and multithreading programming concepts.
• Familiarity with software design principles, architectural fundamentals, quality assurance processes, and estimation methodologies.
• Dedicated to maintaining high standards in code quality, latency optimization, and system observability.
• Adaptable to the dynamic and ambiguous environment typical of startups.
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders alike.
• Intellectual curiosity, quick learner mentality, resourcefulness, and a passion for experimentation.
