Role Overview
As a Staff Software Engineer on the API Platform team, you will take full ownership of critical backend infrastructure that enables communication across services in the engineering organization. Your contributions will ensure the platform is fast, reliable, user-friendly, and adaptable to multiple programming languages used internally. This leadership role involves shaping the platform’s future direction and architecting core systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop core infrastructure facilitating backend service communication across the organization
- Lead a major migration project transforming backend service communication methods in partnership with engineering teams and leadership
- Expand support for additional programming languages and frameworks to empower more teams to build natively on the platform
- Ensure the reliability, performance, and accuracy of systems critical to the entire engineering organization
- Mentor and elevate the technical capabilities of engineers within the team
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience building and maintaining infrastructure depended upon by multiple engineering teams, especially in API gateways, RPC, or service mesh involving high traffic and scale
- Strong sense of ownership for systems requiring reliability and correctness, with a balanced approach to trade-offs over quick solutions
- Ability to drive and communicate technical strategy across teams without direct authority, engaging engineers and stakeholders effectively
- Driven by platform engineering that simplifies work for others and embraces responsibility for outcomes
- Multiple years of experience managing large-scale, high-transaction systems commercially, preferably across different programming languages

The team is responsible for foundational infrastructure that enables other engineering groups to deliver rapidly without concerns about underlying systems. Their work includes managing inter-service communication, traffic routing and security, and supporting diverse programming languages employed throughout the company’s engineering organization.
