Job description

Overview

Join Jane App as a Staff Security Engineer, a key member of the Product Security team that partners closely with developers building software used by over 70,000 clinics for booking, charting, and billing. This role emphasizes fostering a collaborative security approach that targets architectural improvements rather than patching isolated issues repeatedly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify recurring security weaknesses within applications and collaborate with product teams to design and implement architectural enhancements to eliminate systemic vulnerabilities.
  • Lead major product security initiatives including establishing private package repositories, evolving software composition analysis (SCA) tooling, and optimizing development lifecycle workflows involving GitHub.
  • Integrate artificial intelligence into security operations, advancing from automated reporting to AI-assisted vulnerability analysis and code-centric fix development.
  • Serve as a security champion by building trusted relationships with developers, communicating risks clearly, and promoting adoption of secure development practices across Jane.
  • Take ownership of security projects, represent Product Security in cross-functional collaborations, and mentor team members as the most senior hands-on engineer.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience at a staff level in application security with a track record of leading comprehensive security initiatives and collaborating directly with development teams.
  • Strong development background; proficiency in Ruby on Rails preferred, but experience with Python, Java, or C# is also valuable, alongside a willingness to engage with Rails codebases.
  • Expertise in identifying systemic vulnerability patterns and implementing architectural solutions—not merely reporting isolated findings.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with developers and stakeholders, simplifying security concepts, and confidently influencing change in a cooperative manner.
  • Experience with applying AI in security workflows, ideally through automated processes, and conversance with securing AI-enabled product features is a strong plus.
